I hate to break it to him, but the likelihood of black folk in 1600's Japan (black being defined as of African heritage, not dark skinned Japanese), is very small. The complaint that a TV series based on a novel doesn't account for the tiny possibility of some random black guy in Japan is absurd.

One of the "arguments" of the anti gun folx has been that we should rely on the police to protect us. Despite the fact that the Supreme Court has ruled that the police have no duty to protect us, that response has persisted. Now we see the Pittsburgh PD, essentially ceding part of the day to criminals. All y'all who wanted to defund the police, you're getting what you wanted.

San Francisco is so desperate for tax revenue that it taxed GM $108,000,000, on sales of $667,000. I think this is what liberals mean when they want "the rich" to "pay their fair share". The notion that San Francisco can tax a company based in another state for sales that didn't happen in San Fransisco, is ridiculous. Somehow the DFL has, in a relatively short period of time, moved from a rational view of immigration law to the point where Biden is more apologetic over calling a murdering scumbag "illegal" than he is over the fact that his (and his party's) policies are the only reason why this scumbag was in the US to murder "Lincoln Riley". Hell, he can't even apologize for getting her name wrong. Let alone acknowledge his culpability in multiple recent murders.

The fact that a search for this story didn't produce any MSM hits in the first page of results seems to tell a story about the MSM and their commitment to a Narrative. But the fact that this vile act is getting so little coverage from the MSM really does tell us that white folks getting beaten to (near) death just isn't worth reporting. At least the girl responsible was arrested and charged. I guess we'll see if she actually gets prosecuted or just let out.

---I like watching YouTube videos of this guy who refers to himself as "the Metatron". He is into history and his take on the black Cleopatra was very informative, as most of his videos are. He has one or two others regarding black people and whether they were present in certain times and places.
There are some instances where making a character black isn't a problem, but most are problematic indeed. Even in presentations of well known novels, to put a black dude in the story when the era would not support the notion of such a presence just takes away from the story. Imagine if tales of African tribes were populated with a smattering of white dudes. The leftist race-hustlers would have a conniption fit.
There was a recent presentation of the Musketeers...which I liked for the most part as it looked great if nothing else...which presented Porthos as a black dude. Now, Alexandre Dumas was a "quadroon" (1/4 black), but I don't think I recall Porthos as being described as black in any way. (I'll take that as a reason to again re-read The Three Musketeers.
--De-funders should never call upon the police when their lives or property are in danger.
--SF has become THE textbook example of leftism. Like de-funders, their woes are self-inflicted.
--Every time I hear someone complain about calling foreign invaders "illegal", it makes me wonder how little they have to feel good about that they would pretend it's a real problem to so label those who've illegally crossed our border. Such people are worthy targets so deserving of blatant ridicule and mockery.
--That it's hard to find MSM reportage of such stories indicates Trump's disparagement of leftist media as "enemies of the people" are spot on. There's no way it wouldn't be splashed all over the front page if the victim was black.
I agree that there is a cottage industry engaged in inserting Africans into all sorts of historical situations where they were not there.
I also agree that when depicting fiction that the race of the character doesn't matter all that much. I honestly don't have a huge problem with Hamilton using black actors to play the founders, in the context of the fictionalized story. Especially since I don't think the point was to claim that the founders were actually black.
I agree that it's more reasonable in fiction, than history. The thing with Shogun is that it's a fictionalized story written back in the 70's or 80's and the show is an adaptation of that. It's ridiculous to impose 21st century wokeness on something like this. Its' worth mentioning that Shogun is part of a larger series of books, many of which DO have POC characters where appropriate. I'd argue that it makes more sense to look at the entire series as one work, and judge by that.
Absolutely- De-funders should get exactly what they want others to suffer under. Strangely enough, most of them seem to have the means to employ private security.

"Illegal Alien" is literally the correct and proper term used in US legal code to describe those who choose not to avail themselves of the established legal process to immigrate or seek asylum in the US. Millions of people have done so, yet this recent wave are too entitled or impatient to follow the law.
Absolutely. We regularly see incidents where a black aggressor(s) brutally attack someone of another race which are well documented, but never make the MSM. Much like the MS hasn't spent much time on the recent wave of antisemitism we've seen across the globe. While, if the races were reversed, we'd see blanket coverage.
Does their commitment to a Narrative make them enemies, I don't know. Does it make them people who've abandoned the ethics of journalism, absolutely. That's why we are seeing so many non traditional news organizations having success, which makes the veneration of the MSM just because their brands are old, so ridiculous.
Given the purpose of journalism, it seems they are indeed enemies if they don't make every effort to report accurately, particularly on the most important things, and if they "take sides" and report according to their biases. People still rely on news sources for...you know...news. The news should be fact. If they're not going to do their jobs, get out of the business.

In movies, even of novels, it seems to me some deference to the author's intentions should be the first step to finding actors to portray any role. I find it hard to believe that if one wrote a novel concerning a fictional event set during the Civil War period, for example, and it involved Frederick Douglass, I doubt those who try to put black people in every story would be cool with a white or asian actor portraying him. I don't believe it works both ways. Some have suggested Idris Elba to play James Bond, and while I really like him as an actor...never finding a role he played that he didn't play well...I don't think Ian Fleming thought of Bond as anything other than a white dude. Yet any James Bond type story with Elba in the lead would be fine and if done well, could be a whole 'nuther franchise all by itself. What gets me is how forced it all is.
It may be a semantic difference, but I don't see that broad brushing all journalists is helpful.

I think the best example I can remember was casting James Earl Jones as Admiral Greer in the Jack Ryan movies. Nothing in the books hinted at his ethnicity, and he's a great actor so it worked.
As far as Bond. I have two thoughts.
1. The 007 designation isn't something that is permanently attached to Bond, so you could have a different 007 if you wanted.
2. I see no reason why they couldn't do a movie with a black star or a woman star and simply have a different character as the main focus. 008, 009, or whatever. They could literally write the exact same script, but change the name from Bond to Smith and have a good movie. It'd obviously be star dependent, but there's no reason why you have to have a black Bond, instead of a new character.
