"The Adult Survivors Act (ASA) is New York State legislation enacted in May 2022 which amended state law to allow alleged victims of sexual offenses for which the statute of limitations had lapsed to file civil suits for a one-year period, from November 24, 2022, to November 24, 2023. The act thus expanded the ability of plaintiffs to sue for sexual assault and unwanted sexual contact in the workplace.[1]"
"The law opened a one-time window for adult sexual assault survivors in New York to file a civil case against an abuser or institution that protected the abuser — no matter when the assault took place, even if it’s outside the statute of limitations. But that window expires in six months."
"The law, which has a one-year window through late November, follows a 2019 law that expanded opportunities for survivors of child sexual assault to file civil lawsuits."
To be clear, NY democrats added a provision to an existing law that gave Carrol a shot at filing her suit against Trump despite the fact that the previous statute of limitations had expired. It certainly looks like NY amended a law expressly for the purpose of enabling this one suit against Trump.
Scurrilous.

There's no doubt about it. This is true especially given how much worse a witness to her own allegations she was compared to the laughable charges leveled against Brett Kavanaugh by Christine Blasey Ford. In that case, they just wanted to block BK from the bench. In the Carroll case, it was to totally destroy Trump in every way possible. The law was absolutely changed for that purpose specifically. I'll note that I'm unaware that it's been used to go after anyone else.
And yet there is absolutely no evidence that Trump raped her!
The strange thing, to me, how how folx like Dan go on and on about their commitment to justice and whatever, yet revel in miscarriages of justice like this when it suits their political needs. There is no sense in which anything in this story represents justice.
